Upgrade Your Faucet Without Calling An Emergency Plumber
By
Installing a new faucet does not have to be expensive or time-consuming. Basically, this is how you can handle the job yourself.
First, assemble your tools and make sure the faucet you buy as a replacement is compatible with your sink. Turn off your water supply, run all the water out of the faucet, then disconnect the supply lines underneath the sink. Loosen the nuts that hold the existing faucet in place, then gently remove the old faucet and discard the old mounting hardware.
Next, unwrap your new faucet and lay out your attachment hardware. You will place a bead of plumber’s putty along the bottom edge of the faucet in order to create a good seal with it against the sink. Press it firmly into place and attach the mounting nuts to hold it securely in place. Now attach your two supply lines and screw the connectors down tightly to avoid any leaks. Clean up any plumber’s putty that you may have gotten on the sink or faucet before it has a chance to set up…once it hardens, it is difficult to remove, so look carefully for any you might have inadvertently smeared anywhere.
Right before you’re all done, take the aerator off the outlet of the faucet and turn the water supply back on, letting the water run freely for a few minutes. This allows any debris inside the faucet to be flushed out. Re-attach the aerator and you’re done!
